By default there are a number of files and folders which are hidden on Mac OS. This doesnt effect the average user but for the aspiring developer/people who link to tinker this can be a hindrance. Not to worry, follow this simple steps...
To reveal hidden files when using Finder app to browse your computer:
- Open Terminal you can either go to Finder > Applications > Utilities or you can hit Cmd + Space Bar and type terminal then press return.
- In Terminal, paste the following:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
- Press return.
- Finally you need to relaunch Finder by holding alt, and right click on the Finder icon and in the context menu, select Relaunch.
Bonus: to reveal hidden files when viewing files and folders in a file browse window use the keyboard shortcut cmd + shift + .
